Indigenous business supported with PwC MURRA Boost Initiative

In September, Indigenous businesses will again have the opportunity to apply for the PwC MURRA Boost Initiative.

Launched in 2016, now in its seventh year, the partnership between PwC Australia and the MURRA Indigenous Business Masterclass Program seeks applications from majority-owned Indigenous businesses seeking to strengthen and build their business practices or capacity.

Winners are paired up with specialist skills and expertise from the PwC Australia team to the value of $30,000 to support a specific issue that will enable their future growth.

This year’s Indigenous Business Month theme is “ACTIONS TODAY. IMPACT TOMORROW.”  The theme acknowledges that the journey for many business owners is not linear and the stories and experiences we share can play a key role in inspiring the next generation.

“First Nations businesses are making impact every day across Australia - Our business leaders bring the power of contribution to their families, communities and more broadly to the advancement of our people and our nation,” said Indigenous Business Month co-founder and founder of MURRA program, Dr Michelle Evans.

“First Nations cultures are steeped in learning from the people who have gone before us. As a business owner today, we are paving the way for the young people around us to learn, creating a ripple effect for our sector and opportunities for their future,” said Indigenous Business Month co-founder Mayrah Sonter.

PwC Australia CEO Tom Seymour said the partnership with MURRA enables greater connectivity and relationship building with First Nations businesses across the country.

“As a major sponsor of Indigenous Business Month, we’re proud to continue our support of the Indigenous business sector through the PwC Murra Boost initiative. We recognise that the growth and success of First Nations businesses has an important impact on communities, nation building and fostering further economic development and wealth creation for First Nations peoples.”

Previous winners of the PwC Murra Boost have been a diverse range of First Nations businesses, including Kakadu Tiny Tots an Aboriginal clothing store that sources handcrafted designs and artwork from remote communities across the Northern Territory, GWS Engineering & Construction, a family operated business focused in the construction and engineering industries, providing excellent service, quality and reliable workmanship, and Cedrent Enterprises, a vehicle hire company with commercial utes, trucks, vans, buses, 4WD and passenger cars for hire in Adelaide, Alice Springs, Darwin Airport and City and a number of other locations.

Indigenous Business Month runs from 1 October to 31 October. Applications for the MURRA Boost Initiative are now open, closing on Tuesday 27 September 2022. The awards night is scheduled for 25th October.

Indigenous Business Month is supported by 33 Creative, MURRA Indigenous Business Master Class Program, Iscariot Media and PwC Australia.
