At PwC, we're committed to helping people develop market-leading expertise that is relevant to their job, their clients and our PwC vision, values and strategy. This means that we develop not only your technical expertise, but also your commercial and interpersonal skills too. We think that learning at PwC should be readily available in a diverse range of experiences ranging from formal classroom sessions, working on complex client projects, working in different teams or locations, working on different clients and/or industries, solving interesting business problems, and coaching conversations.
We’re proud to provide every person at PwC with a coach who works with you throughout the year to help accelerate your learning and on-the-job performance. For those of you who exceed expectations, you have the opportunity to further enhance your development. You can do this by participating in a variety of challenging and diverse experiences within the Australian and global firms to continue growing your learning potential.
Learning from others
This is important to us because we value coaching. Being able to coach and be coached is a huge part of our learning methodology at PwC. This means taking the time out to help develop one another and provide guidance, feedback and assistance where needed. We do this because we genuinely want all of our people to grow and develop. It means that we must all be open to feedback.
Learning by doing
Sometimes, the largest learning is the one we do on-the-job. It’s doing something. We often forget about this type of learning because it isn’t in a classroom. More often than not, we just jump in and try something. Learning by doing is teamed with capturing feedback to check in on how you’re going. It’s a great way to learn and we encourage our people to recognise it as a formal part of their development.
Our Onboarding approach
Our Onboarding process starts when you consider PwC as a prospective employer. From the time you sign your offer letter, we’re working hard to ensure that your first day arrival is one that you’ll remember. When you walk in the door on day one, you’ll join the firm’s PwC Arrival Day program with other new joiners. It will give you an overview of our vision, values and strategy so that you can begin to see what life is like at PwC.
As part of your Onboarding, you’ll be allocated a buddy and coach who will work with you and help you find your way. We’ve also got an Onboarding Plan that you can use to help you structure your performance, coaching and development against the new joiner expectations. It just makes your life a bit easier because we’ve done the hard work for you.
Once you're up and running, you'll participate in your business' learning curriculum to give you the practical skills you need to service your clients.
Graduate Development Program
This is an exciting program where you’ll get to have a lot of fun with other graduates. The PwC Graduate Development Program is a nine month program and helps to build the business critical skills you need as a new graduate.
The program consists of a one day classroom event where you’ll be able to come together and have some serious fun exploring our vision and values and develop self management techniques to help you stay commercial and innovative. Outside of that, we’ve got coaching, virtual classrooms, learning bytes/blogs, e-learns, facilitated discussions, reflection activities and a research project to keep you entertained.
What about further tertiary study?
We’re aiming to be a learning organisation and as such, we really encourage people to undertake further study. To put our money where our mouth is, we provide subsidies, paid study leave and encourage flexible working arrangements. We like to make it happen.
Once you have the right approval, study options may include Chartered Accountants Program, CPA Program, Master of Finance, Chartered Financial Analyst, Master of Economics, Master of Business Administration, Master of Tax and Master of Business Technology. If your preferred program isn’t here, don’t worry – all you need to do is chat to your coach.
Chartered Accountants Program
If you’re planning on studying the Chartered Accountants (CA), we have a terrific program that helps you every step of the way. We have a great support network of CA Coaches who work with the candidates on each subject. We also run master classes to help you through some of those tough subjects. We offer study and exam leave and financial support for you too.
Because we're committed to a coaching culture and supporting people during their CA, we also provide the opportunity for CA candidates to receive coaching and peer learning support to complement their formal external development.
Are you from a non-accounting background?
Have you studied something other than Accounting? Don’t worry; there are plenty of people here who have. If you are interested in pursuing a career in the Chartered Accounting profession, we can help you do that.
Anyone coming from a non-accounting discipline and would like to pursue their Chartered Accountancy (CA) qualification can undertake the Graduate Certificate in Chartered Accounting Foundations. This program is specifically tailored to meet the entry level knowledge requirements of the CA Program.
The Graduate Certificate offered by Deakin University is a distance learning program, fully supported by Deakin's online system. You'll receive course materials, a learning toolkit and support from experienced teaching staff, all financed by PwC.
Introduction to Australian Business Tax
The Introduction to Australian Business Tax course is run through Sydney University and facilitated by a member of PwC's Tax Technical Knowledge Centre. It's the core fundamental tax learning program for all new graduates joining our Tax & Legal business.
This five-day intensive program gives graduates the grounding in the Australian tax system and helps them get ready for their new role at PwC.
If you successfully complete the exam and you also want to complete the Chartered Accountants Program, you can be exempt from the CA Program tax module. It will also provide credit towards relevant post-graduate university degrees.
